Vancouver - it’s actually in Washington!!!

Yesterday our trip went to Esther short park in Vancouver - we got the information from the slackline.com forum. Luckyly a farmers market took place the whole afternoon, so there were plenty of people surrounding the three lines we set up.

As for today, we will go there again and mayby meet up later with a reporter from WEND magazin, and shoot some pictures for their homepage.

Half time: FOX 44 covers Gibbon ECT1

Today we’ve been to Burlington, Vermont. And guess what - no rain! After so many days of almost constant rain we finally got sunshine! Burlington is by far one of the most beautiful cities we’ve been to. Very little traffic, nice pedestrian zone, small houses in bright colors.  We started the day with homemade muffins and scones from Zabby and Elf’s Stone Soup, a place you should definitely go to if you’re in town.

By the way, Burlington is situated on the eastern shore of Lake Champlain. We set up our lines next to the local farmer market and immediately drew a crowd. We met jugglers, local slackliners and a bunch of kids .. .

We also made friends with Sam, a local street performer that amazed us all with a handstand on a slackwire (not to be confused with our slacklines).

In Burlington we also met Canaima’s Gary again and we finally got to meet Caitlin, our contact from pale morgan media, who always has a hard time with us Gibbons when it comes to appointments ;-)

Not to forget our TV appearance that Caitlin had arranged for us: Whitney Brown from local television Fox 44 joined us and interviewed Freddy. You can watch the clip on Fox’s website. (get it soon, who knows how long it will be online)!

We spent the remains of the day at Gary’s house, together with Lisa and Kai - thanks for the great time in an amazing house and an awesome BBQ.

Since we enjoyed Burlington so much, we decided to stay there on more day. So if you’re in town on sunday, try to catch up with us either at City Hall Park or somewhere near the lakeshore.

The rust belt

A couple of days ago we learned that the part of the USA we’ve been traveling through is actually called the rust belt because it’s the oldest industrial area of the States. That alone is interesting enough, but considering the fact that we drove through rain almost all the time adds that certain “aha”. We totally had to skip Cleveland (no sunshine at all) and paid only a brief visit to Niagara Falls. Since it’s wet there pretty much all of the time, the extra rain didn’t count at all.  There wasn’t much slacklining either, as we’d had to cross the canadian border for better pictures and we already had a date near Syracuse. By the way: The Niagara Falls have already been slacked in 1859 by some crazy French guys - that’s long before slacklining was even invented.

In Syracuse (actually in Liverpool) we met Tom who contacted us via slackline.com. We had a nice little slack session close to a skate park with him and his friends. After that we hit the road one more time (guess what - it rained) and drove all the way up to Burlington, Vermont.

Olympia not in Greece - it’s in Washington!!!

Yesterday afternoon we stopped in Olympia at the Capitol Lake for slacklining. Pretty cool spot for another sunny afternoon in Washington.

Unfortunately just a few people took the opportunity to try walking the lines. But the guys who tried  it were very very interested and told us they will definitly get one of those slacklines.

About 5PM we took of and got to Portland by 7PM where we are going to stay for this weekend.

Nick spent also about 4h editing a really nice movie from out sand-beach-slack-session in Seattle but we have lots of trouble uploading this video…hopefully we can post the youtube-link during this day.

edit:

there is another TV appearance from the Seattle Times:

No wussies allowed

Well, seeing all those fancy beach photos we decided to go for some waterlining ourselves. Well, sort of. Yesterday in Ann Arbor, MI we met Sam from one of the local newspapers. We set up a nice line in the Arb and eventually decided to rig a line over the nearby river. Much to everyone’s dislike, rain set in (rain as in pouring rain) and we had to skip the waterline. At least Freddy got into the river only to find out it would have been too shallow anyways.

Today in Cleveland we were initially scheduled to meet more local press but had to cancel it - due to rain (as in even more pouring rain than yesterday). All of a sudden Mike jumped out of the car, yelling something like “yeah, waterline” and faster than the others could realize, he had rigged a jibline! So much for the wussies!

Beach slacking rockz!

Hey there,

after having our day off yesterday (we visited Seattle, walked around, went shopping, were at a all-you-can-eat-chinese-king-buffet and so on) we spent today another day at a nice beach nearby Seattle. We heard about this nice slackline spot from some other slackliners from Seattle and met them up there. Together with them and some other peole who just came there to see what we are doing we had a really nice day in the sun. We also met a reporter from the ‘Seattle Times’ there, who filmed a video - another representation of slacklining and gibbon slacklines! We will post the video here a.s.a.p. By the way, sand and backflips do not mix - Bernd had a little accident, he slipped off the line and fell on his shoulder, which is pretty thick now. Hope he will do better tomorrow.

Greetz to all gibbons out there from the WCT1

P.S.: below you can see the video from the freestyle-jam in Missuola

Trees under observation

We left Chicago rather late and had to take yet another White Castle related detour. It was not until 4 a.m that we finally arrived at Ann Arbor, Michigan. One instant coma later we got ourselves some supplies (like the Urban Detox we could well use after Chicago ;-) ) from Whole Foods where we met Martin. This nice German guy told us that the university campus should be the place to go. And what should I say - he was totally right! A bunch of very talented and enthusiastic students tried to walk the slackline and we even met some of the local slackliners.

Enter the police officer: All of a sudden this officer showed up and explained to us that basically all of the campus trees are tagged and under observation. At least he honored our tree padding but we still had to take it all down, much to the dislike of the crowd.

Since we are still in Ann Arbor and we had such a positive feedback yesterday, we’ll try to find some untagged trees in “the Arb“.
