Active Junky - Line it Up

Line it Up August 12, 2009
Finally it’s cool to be a slacker. Or maybe it always was. Regardless, we’re talking about slacklining, the newest sport trend to literally hit your neck of the woods. It’s a little like walking a
tight rope—except the line is looser, or just as it sounds, a little more slack.

You can kit yourself out with a strip of webbed nylon and some ratchets, or you can buy an actual slackline and tensioning kit, like those made by Gibbon.

The beauty of this sport is that it’s portable, packable and you can get as much out of it as you put into it. The more advanced slackers perform flips and jumps, but if you’re just starting out, you’ll find that even standing on the slackline poses a serious balance challenge. You’re forced to use all of the small, proprioceptive muscles that surround your joints, not to mention your core, which you’ll constantly call upon to stabilize your swaying body.

For examples, check out slackline.com. You can also visit gibbonslacklines.com, to check out their kits and watch a set-up video. Just remember to kick off your shoes and relax. It’s never been more fun to walk the line.
