The world of slackline has a few different skill sets in itself. The three most notable sections of slacklining are tricklining, longlining, and highlining.
Tricklining teaches you basic balance and as you begin to learn how to use the slackline to your advantage you can start learning different tricks; including poses, dynamic movements, and combinations of both.
Longlining teaches you how to stay focused and trains you to sustain your mental and physical energy reserves as you stay balanced on lines up to 250 meters long!
Highlining is when you slackline high off the ground using your mind to conquer the evolutionary fear of falling from high off the ground.
There are only a handfull of slackliners around the world who have the training to not wear any saftey harness when walking these highlines. This last summer I took off my harness to walk the Lost Arrow Spire highline in Yosemite Valley; 3000ft high off the ground. After I walked there and back I felt reborn. Since then I have been training to be able to wear a parachute when walking these highlines, so if i were to fall… “instead of dying, I’m flying.” (Dean Potter, legendary slackline and climbing free soloist)
